For the past two years, Mr. Michaels has been the assistant research director for resource development for the Mental Health Association of San Francisco’s Center for Dignity, Recovery, & Empowerment. Since 2007, mental illness stigma expert Dr. Patrick Corrigan has mentored Mr. Michaels. Alongside Dr. Corrigan, he has conducted four anti-stigma program evaluations, presented at five conferences, and published 16 articles including a meta-analysis of public stigma interventions. In 2012, Mr. Michaels received an Active Minds Emerging Scholars Fellowship to study Active Minds Speakers Bureau. Mr. Michaels aims to complete his clinical psychology Ph.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2015 after completion of his internship at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
