Understanding Borderline Personality Disorder in Boys and Young Men: An Underserved Population
Thursday, January 12, 2017 1:00:00 PM PST - 3:00:00 PM PST
Although males comprise about half of the population of people with BPD, the vast majority go undiagnosed, and as a consequence our mental health system fails to provide optimal treatment for them. In fact, evidence suggests that many males with BPD end up, often incorrectly, diagnosed with anti-social personality disorder, often problematically shunted into the criminal justice system. Prevalence and etiology, along with sticky assessment issues will be discussed, and recommendations for optimal treatment will be suggested.
